The White Garden Inn
Historic Bed and Breakfast in Oxford, Ohio

In 1998, John and Linda Alexander, originally from Florida, had a dream and a vision to build and create a small Bed & Breakfast near Oxford, OH. A Victorian House design was expanded to help meet the needs not only of guests to their home but to accommodate small conferences, retreats and special events in a country inn setting with a white garden.

The 9,000-square foot home is located between Miami University and Hueston Woods State Park, complete with a large lake and golf course. B&B guests typically include visiting students, parents, alumni, coaches, speakers and foreign dignitaries to the campus. The commercial kitchen is a hub of activity for lifestyle groups, social groups and family gatherings of all kinds to gather indoors or outdoors.

White Garden Inn HistoryOwners Michael & Katie McNeil

Michael and Katie McNeil are a Miami University merger in marriage in 1974 as well as later in business in ownership of Miami Machine Corporation, a Butler County large process equipment design and manufacturing company.

With the recent sale of the business, their dream was to have a Bed & Breakfast. Katie enjoys gardening and wants to have guests learn and enjoy their experience in gardens.

B&B A Real Family Affair

All of the McNeil family love to travel and have stayed in many B&Bs around the world. Three children have lived for extended periods of time with host families in Spain, Argentina, and Chile.

The McNeil family has enjoyed hosting many Rotary International high school exchange students and hosting and entertaining guests from over 30 countries in their home.

Compliments of Audrey Turner Photography

While Michael and Katie are looking forward to more time to travel and visit family; their daughter, Laura McNeil Desmond and her husband, Quinn Desmond, will be managing the romantic Bed and Breakfast.

Laura is a graduate of the University of Denver with a business degree in Hotel Restaurant and Tourism Management. The Desmonds met in Jackson, WY, and have worked in many areas of hospitality in a number of small boutique hotels and eco-resorts. Their experience and customer care are a big reason our country inn is regarded as one of the best Bed and Breakfast destinations in Ohio.

The entire family looks forward to growing the business, as well as the gardens and friendships that come with each B&B guest. Developing new relationships with travelers, Miami University parents and alumni, golfers and lovers of nature would be a dream come true.
